The Golden Retriever is a , sturdy, well-proportioned dog with a feathered, medium-length, light to dark golden-colored coat. Many classic Goldens are a dark red-golden. The outer coat is water-repellent and the undercoat is dense. The head is broad, with a tapering, but wide, powerful muzzle.  The nose is black and the kindly eyes are brown to dark brown . The ears are medium-sized and pendant. Its neck and thighs are muscular and the chest is broad. The tail is long and flows with graceful feathering.

Temperament
These are lovable, well-mannered, intelligent dogs with great charm. They are easily trained, and are always gentle with children. They are loyal, confident, sweet,  eager to please, and loving. They make outstanding family dogs. Golden Retrievers enjoy pleasing their masters. They excel in obedience competitions and are friendly with everyone, including other dogs. While unlikely to attack, Goldens make good watch dogs, loudly signaling a stranger's approach. This breed needs to be around people to be happy.  Golden's are used for hunting,  retrieving, therapy, narcotics detection, agility competition, competitive obedience, and performing tricks.  Above all, however, these dogs typically love to swim and play in any body of water; puddles to tubs, rivers to oceans.
